The Consumer and Financial Literacy Online Course
The Consumer and Financial Literacy Program was funded by the Treasury through the Australian Government Quality Teacher Programme. This was a cross sector initiative. Social Education Victoria Incorporated was contracted by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Catholic Education Commission Victoria and the Association of Independent Schools Victoria to deliver this program.
A series of workshops were delivered by Social Education Victoria. The workshops were based on the Consumer and Financial Literacy Professional Learning Program, comprising a Teacher Guide, the DVD 'Let's Talk!' and the 'Understanding Money' website.
The online course is designed to support the ongoing development of Consumer and Financial Literacy. The online course includes an:
- outline of the rationale for teaching Consumer and Financial Literacy
- examination of the topics to be taught
- exploration of where it can be taught in the curriculum
- provision of models of introducing Consumer and Financial Literacy within the school organisation.
