Citizens are members of a group or community who share the same rights and responsibilities. As a citizen you can expect to be treated in the same way as everybody else in your community.
Some rights of Australian citizenship include being able to:
- live in Australia
- apply for Australian passport
- stand for parliament.
Some responsibilities of citizenship include:
- obeying the laws
- voting in elections
- serving on a jury if required.
In Australia determining how things are done and what changes are made in our society is the shared responsibility of everyone who lives here.
Active citizens take action in order to improve their community, to make a difference !
