History and purpose

History

SEV (Social Education Victoria) is a professional association established in 1970 for all who are interested in teaching about society and environment using integrated approaches to Social Education course content. Until 2007, the association was known as VASST (Victorian Association of Social Studies Teachers).

Purpose

  • advocate for and advance the study of Social Education in the State of Victoria
  • represent the views of persons connected with the teaching and learning of Social Education at all levels and in all types of education institutions
  • provide opportunities for the formulation and exchange of ideas on curriculum content and pedagogy
  • sponsor and support activities that assist the teaching and learning of Social Education in the State of Victoria
  • promote cooperation between, and liaise with similar organisations
  • uphold the academic freedom and professional independence of members
  • do all such things as are incidental or conducive to the attainments of the above objects.
