VCE Global Politics Unit 4 Online PD

Date: Tuesday, 14 July 2020
Time: 9am-11am
Venue: Online

After our popular Term 3 Global Politics online professional learning, the same team is back for Unit 4. To kickstart Term 3 we have two sessions planned.

Session 1: Ethical Issues and Debates Check in

Tuesday, July 14, 2020, 9:00am-11:00am

Useful for: Educators interested in the Human Rights option for Ethical Issues and Debates

Purpose & Focus: Whether you’re a ‘first-timer’, ‘a few years in’ or a ‘seasoned vet’ with teaching the 4.1 Human Rights option, this PD has been designed as a start-of-term ‘gather our thoughts’ session. Nick Melaisis will step through the 4.1 Study Design key knowledge points offering Human Rights content info, skill tips, case study ideas and resources to assist you with ensuring all bases are covered.

Session 2: Building 'learning bridges' between Unit 2 and Unit 4

Thursday 23 July, 2020, 9:00am-11:00am

Useful for: Australian and Global Politics educators, particularly those wanting to effectively prepare Unit 2 students for Unit 4.

Purpose & Focus: This PD is designed for both Unit 2 Australian and Global Politics educators and Units 3-4 Global Politics educators interested in mapping a learning progression pathway between Study Design options in Unit 2 and Unit 4 in order to foster cross-curriculum links between Year 11 and Year 12. Nick Melaisis will facilitate a workshop on how to program and resource an international cooperation and conflict focus on People Movement and Disarmament in Unit 2, Area of Study 2, that can be drawn on as student prior learning the following year in Unit 4, Area of Study 1 for the ethical issues of People Movement and Arms Control.

About the Presenter: Nick has been an educator for 15 years. He believes the Humanities matter now more than ever and that the study of Global Politics offers a much needed ‘antidote of hope’ to the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity we confront today. Nick’s recent coal-face experiences include: Director of Learning & Teaching and Head of Humanities (Catherine McAuley College), Curriculum & Learning Specialist – The Humanities (Monash College),  Co-author of the current SEV Units 1-2 and Units 3-4 politics text books, and in 2020 is part of the writing team producing the Global Politics Units 3 and 4 Student Survival Packs.
