History and purpose
Social Education Victoria ('SEV') is a professional association established for all who are interested in social education – including the study of civics, citizenship, politics, society and the environment.
From our founding in 1970 until 2007, we were known as 'VASST' (the Victorian Association of Social Studies Teachers).
Our mission is to:
- advocate for and advance the study of social subjects in Victoria
- represent the views of those connected with the teaching and learning of social education at all levels and in all types of education settings
- provide opportunities for the formulation and exchange of ideas on curriculum content and pedagogy
- support activities that assist the teaching and learning of social education subjects in Victoria
- cooperate with and promote organisations with similar interests and goals
- protect the academic freedom and professional independence of members
- perform any work that is incidental or conducive to attaining these objectives.
